Pentair's commitment to technology - the CDR

With the aim of remaining leaders and pioneering technology in the water treatment industry, Pentair set up a Center for Design & Research (CDR) in 1998 in India . It came into existence at a time when off-shoring the R&D and engineering activities was at very nascent age in business scenario.

The center employs engineers from premier institutes in India , focusing their efforts on enabling Pentair to change ideas into products & problems into solutions. The center currently has a team of 110 qualified engineers which caters to the worldwide requirements of the Pentair group of companies.

CDR has well defined processes which help in smooth work transfer between engineering groups located at various locations worldwide and the CDR. It is growing fast to meet the engineering needs of various business units within the Pentair world .

The three key initiative areas at CDR :

Product, Design & Development

The product design and development team is a group of creative inter-disciplinary engineers and designers that works with inter-Pentair clients to conceptualise, to design and to materialize insightful & creative ideas. This team works on new product development activities as well as product modifications and improvements.

This team consists of industrial designers, mechanical engineers and electronic engineers and is responsible for working on new product ideas as well as product improvements. This team has the expertise to take a product from a conceptual level to a manufacturable product.

Engineering Services

CDR has been providing engineering support and services to many Pentair companies in the following areas:
2D to 3D conversion and product modifications.
CAD modelling of Pumps from hydraulic data.
FEA analysis.
Reverse engineering.

Pumps

The pumps domain in CDR is involved in the design of hydraulic components of pumps. It involves development of new hydraulics and improvement of existing products for performance improvement. CDR pumps domain serves clients namely Aurora pumps, Fairbanks Morse, Sta-Rite, Pentair pumps, Shurflo.
